Karol Józef Erdmann Henckel von Donnersmarck was a German nobleman and count who lived in the 18th century. He was the second and youngest son of Count Karol Maksymilian and his second wife, Helena Jadwiga, Countess von Roedern1. He inherited the Tarnowskie Góry – Świerklaniecki fideicomis (a type of estate) from his elder brother Leon Maksymilian in 17271. He was a Protestant and a subject of the Catholic Habsburg emperor and king of Bohemia1. He was tolerant of other religions and allowed a Jewish family to settle in Tarnowskie Góry in 17321. He also hosted the Elector of Saxony, Frederick August II Wettin, who later became the king of Poland as Augustus III, in 17341. In 1742, he switched his allegiance to the King of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, and obtained permission to celebrate evangelical services and build a house of prayer in Tarnowskie Góry1. He died in 1759234.
